PSP Public Issues Task Force 2010 / 2011
The task force monitors copyright, regulatory, political and legislative issues that influence or impact the business of professional and scholarly publishing. Reports and recommendations are given on an as-needed basis to the PSP Executive Council. While the principal focus of PITF is the U.S. legislative and regulatory landscape, the PITF chair keeps a pulse on international developments and advises accordingly on their implications in the U.S.
The membership of the PITF consists of a Chair and has no permanent task force members. The Chair’s responsibilities involve:
- Organizing the PITF session for the PSP Annual Conference to address public policy, government and legislative issues, both domestic and international.
- Serve as official liaison between the PSP Executive Council and the Federal Government Affairs Consultant, contracted under joint arrangement between PSP and STM, to ensure support of scientific and scholarly publishers’ interests and generate a better understanding of the industry’s contributions to scholarly communication and society as a whole.
While there is no permanent PITF membership, the Chair is encouraged to develop ad hoc advisory teams as necessary to help carry out his or her assigned responsibilities. Communication is maintained with groups internal to AAP (Copyright Committee and Online Piracy Working Group) and external (Government Affairs Task Force and STM) regarding issues and developments core to the focus of the PITF.
