Association of American Publishers (AAP)

www.publishers.org

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) is the principal trade association of the book publishing industry.

AAP has over 300 members located throughout the United States. AAP members publish hardcover and paperback books in every field -- fiction, general non-fiction, poetry, children's literature, textbooks, reference works, Bibles and other religious books, and scientific, medical, technical, professional and scholarly books and journals. They also publish audio and video tapes, computer software, looseleaf services, electronic products and services including online databases, CD-ROM and a range of educational materials including classroom periodicals, maps, globes, filmstrips, and testing materials.

Members of the Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division (PSP) publish, in print and electronic form, the vast majority of materials produced and used by scholars and professionals in science, medicine, technology, business, law, and the humanities.

Working closely with AAP's Washington staff, the division monitors federal government activity, with special emphasis on the Office of Technology Assessment and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The PSP Division maintains close contact with professional associations including the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) and the Society for Scholarly Publishing.

See the PSP website at: http://www.pspcentral.org for additional issue statements and materials on PRISM Coalition http://www.prismcoalition.org, the NIH Public Access Policy, Federal Reserach Public Access Act (S. 2695), "Publisher Principles", OFAC litigation, Google litigation, and the PSP Issues Glossary.
